What Is Wealthy Affiliate?

Wealthy Affiliate is a website that enables people to earn money through something called affiliate marketing which involves promoting products/services for companies online.

You see most companies, including the big names like Amazon, Nike & Best Buy, have programs through which you can promote their products or services for commissions.

These programs are known as affiliate programs.

And as an example, here’s a screenshot of Amazon’s own program which they call Amazon Associates:

As you can see from the image the program is titled “Profit from Amazon” & it states that you can earn up to a whopping 12% in commissions by promoting their products.

You send somebody to their website, they purchase something, you get paid.

And Wealthy Affiliate basically provides you with everything you need to get started with affiliate marketing, including training, tools, community support & even personal mentorship.

So as a new member to Wealthy Affiliate you’ll be shown exactly how affiliate marketing works & then you’ll be given the tools & training that you need to actually get started with it.

You see, as outlined above the process of affiliate marketing is pretty simple – you get people to click your links, if they go on to purchase something, you earn a commission…

But whilst the process is simple, whether or not you see success with it depends on whether or not you can actually get people clicking through your links in the first place.

As you can see somebody has done exactly that.

They’ve created a page about the best cycling backpacks for commuting, and now whenever somebody searches for those in Google, the page is presented an option to click on.

This means that the page will begin receiving visitors which gives the opportunity for the owner of the page to promote something to them as an affiliate.

They click the result, check out the page, purchase a product & the person that created the page gets paid a commission.

And that’s exactly what the person who’s created that page has done:

As you can see from the screenshot above next to each of the backpacks listed on the page the person has added an affiliate link which takes the visitor to the purchase page on Amazon.

This means that from a one-time small effort of creating the page, the person who owns it could now stand to earn passive commissions for many years to come.

Every time somebody searches, clicks & purchases, he or she gets paid, without having to do any extra effort to actually make the sale.

And this is exactly what Wealthy Affiliate enables you to do.

Wealthy Affiliate shows you step-by-step how you can get ideas for pages to create & it provides you with all of the tools that you need to actually create them & get them online.

Can You Really Make Money With Wealthy Affiliate?

Yes, you can really make money with Wealthy Affiliate & there are a handful of different ways that you can do it.

The first way and the way that most people do it is to create small niche websites around things that you’re passionate about on which you’ll promote products as an affiliate.

That’s the primary thing that the Wealthy Affiliate training teaches you to do.

So as an example if you have an interest in dogs, you might create a niche website related to dogs on which you could promote products from a site like Amazon.

People visit your website, check out the products, you earn commissions.

And nowadays most companies that have an online presence have affiliate programs through so there are literally thousands of places you can earn from by doing this.

Plus the benefit of doing this method is that you’ll be building a business around something that you’re passionate about which will make the process much more enjoyable.

If it’s enjoyable you’ll be more likely to work harder at it & if you work harder you’ll be more likely to see success. That’s why this is the route I always recommend people take.

The second way that you can earn though is by simply promoting Wealthy Affiliate to others.

Wealthy Affiliate has a pretty lucrative referral program & you can earn money by getting new members to join.

If a member joins via your link, decides they like what they see & then goes Premium, you’ll get paid a commission.

Starter members get paid 25% commissions on new sales & Premium members get that commission boosted up to 50%… Plus the commissions also recur for as long as the member keeps their subscription active.

This means that if you refer Suzie to Wealthy Affiliate & Suzie decides to stick around for 10 years, you’ll get paid commissions for those entire 10 years.

Wealthy Affiliate Complaints

Wealthy Affiliate is awesome, but I’d be lying if I told you it was perfect as no system or program will ever be perfect. I actually have some Wealthy Affiliate complaints.

1. Rank Obsessed Members

Wealthy Affiliate has an internal ranking system which ranks members based on things like their level of activity, helpfulness & how much they contribute to the community.

This number gets displayed on their profile & if they manage to get within the top 25 they also get the title of “ambassador”, since they’re clearly very committed to the community.

The problem though is that some people get overly obsessed with this rank number, despite it having absolutely no impact on their business or income whatsoever.

As a result, they start doing things specifically to try to increase their rank, such as leaving more comments, and sadly this results in some pretty useless, annoying comments.

For example, when people ask a question it’s common to see someone respond with “I don’t know the answer, but I wish I did“… Totally unhelpful & frankly, quite annoying.

So my first Wealthy Affiliate complaint is about opening comment notification emails, visiting Wealthy Affiliate & discovering it’s just a useless comment posted by a rank obsessed member.

2. Bad Advice

This complaint follows on from the rank obsessed complaint above because, in order for people to try & increase their rank, they often answer questions even when the question being asked is something they really know nothing about.

Sometimes they get it right, but often they get it wrong, leading to bad advice being offered to members.

I mean I’m not saying all of the advice in Wealthy Affiliate is bad. There’s a LOT of good advice, but you shouldn’t necessarily take everything you hear for gospel.

The good news though is that because the community is so large & active, normally somebody will come in & correct the advice – but sometimes I’ve seen this get heated.

People don’t like to be made out to be wrong, even if they are.

3. Easy To Get Distracted

The Wealthy Affiliate community is very active with new member blogs & questions being published almost every minute & there’s also a live chat which is usually always pretty active as well.

This is great in one respect, but it also means it’s very easy to get distracted.

For example, you can find yourself popping into the live chat for a “moment” only to then lose track of time & later realize that you’ve actually been in there for over an hour.

It’s not the end of the world of course, but that hour spent in the chat is an hour that could have been spent on actually growing your business & doing something productive.

The Bottom Line

If you’re looking to make good money from affiliate marketing then in my opinion Wealthy Affiliate is hands down the best place to get started as it provides absolutely everything you could ever need.

Not only will you get the step-by-step training you need but on top of that, you’ll also get all of the tools you need as well along with the added benefit of access to community support & even personal mentorship.

How Much Money Can You Make With Wealthy Affiliate?

There’s absolutely no limit on the amount you can earn, it simply depends on how hard you’re willing to work. Many successful Wealthy Affiliate members earn 4-figures per month, several earn 5-figures per month & some even earn as much as 6-figures per month.

How Long Does It Take To Make Money With Wealthy Affiliate?

This depends on a number of things. You could “technically” make money right away, but realistically if you’re brand new you should give yourself at least 3 to 6 months before expecting to see any earnings. The good news though is that whilst it might take a little while to initially gain momentum, once you do begin earning you’ll be able to begin scaling things up much more quickly.

Is Wealthy Affiliate Free?

You can certainly create a free Starter account & try Wealthy Affiliate for free but if you decide you want to proceed with the course after trying it then you’ll need to upgrade to a Premium membership. Premium membership costs only $49/mo (for everything included) & that price can even be lowered to just $30/mo if you pay for the full year in advance.

Is Wealthy Affiliate a Pyramid Scheme?

No. Wealthy Affiliate does have an affiliate program through which you can earn money by referring new members but the program only pays out commissions on 1 level. Pyramid schemes involve money getting passed member to member across multiple levels (hence the name) & typically only stand to benefit the people towards the top.

Is Wealthy Affiliate Outdated?

Some of the training inside of Wealthy Affiliate is outdated, yes, but the core training is frequently updated & new training courses are added every single day. The Wealthy Affiliate training still works in 2022 & it’s a common sight to see new members posting blogs about the success they’ve found as a result of following it.
