What Is Affiliate Marketing?

In short, affiliate marketing basically involves promoting products or services online in return for commissions – and it provides an absolutely excellent way for anybody to earn money.

You see, nowadays nearly all companies with an online presence have affiliate programs through which you can promote their products or services in return for money, and that even includes the big names like Amazon.

In fact, Amazon has a great affiliate program which they call Amazon Associates, as shown below:

Amazon Associates

As you can see from the image above they title their program “Profit from Amazon” and state that you can earn up to a whopping 12% in commissions by promoting their products.

So How Does Affiliate Marketing Work?

Basically, when you sign up as an affiliate for a company you get assigned with a unique ID, and you then get a special link to the company’s website which includes that given ID.

That link is called an affiliate link.

This means that when you send visitors to the website via the link, the company is able to detect that you sent them there, and if the person you sent happens to make a purchase then you’ll get paid as a result.

The best thing about it is that you literally don’t have to do anything other than simply refer to the person to the product or service.

You don’t have to do any selling, you don’t have to handle any customer support, you don’t have to deal with refunds… In fact, you don’t even have to talk to anybody at all.

Plus on top of all that, most companies will stay pay you commissions even if the person that you referred ends up buying a completely different product altogether.

And some, like Amazon will even pay you for all of the products they purchase if they happen to add additional things to their cart.

Amazon Earnings Example

So let’s say you referred somebody to Amazon to purchase a book, but they end up buying a laptop, a lawnmower & some other stuff – you’d get a commission for everything in the purchase.

Cool, right?

And that’s why I ❤ Affiliate Marketing.

So Who Can Do Affiliate Marketing?

Anybody.

There are no restrictions whatsoever on who can get started with it, and because the process is so simple it’s relatively easy for anybody to do, regardless of experience.

Especially thanks to the help of step-by-step training programs like Wealthy Affiliate.

And you can take myself as an example of that – prior to doing affiliate marketing to earn a living I actually used to work as an electrician on the steelworks & I had no experience with this whatsoever.

Put simply, if you’re willing to learn, you’ve got the chance to earn.

But How Do You Get Paid From Affiliate Marketing?

This is a common question that I see people asking but there’s no “one size fits all” answer to it because of the fact that it depends entirely upon which companies you’re working with.

Easy company has different payment policies & procedures…

One company may pay weekly via cheque, another may pay daily via a wire transfer into your bank.

PayPal or Payoneer could be other payment options as well.

Ultimately though, however you want to get paid, you’ll be able to find an affiliate program that pays you that way because there are literally thousands of programs that you can join.

So even if you’re restricted to only being able to work with certain payment methods it’ll be very unlikely to be a problem.

There are many ways that you can get started with it, but the easiest way is probably just to check out the free getting started guide that I’ve put together right here on this website.
